Wrestler Kumar gives India first world medal in 42 years

CHENNAI, India (Reuters) - Ramesh Kumar has won India's first world championship men's wrestling medal in 42 years.

Kumar bagged a bronze in the 74kg freestyle category in Denmark to become the first Indian male world medalist since Vishambhar Singh's silver in 1967, the Wrestling Federation of India said in a statement on Thursday.

Kumar defeated Alexandr Burca of Moldova in the repechage round to secure bronze.
