Choi, Thongchai headline Malaysian Open field

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - South Korea's seven-time PGA Tour victor K.J. Choi and Asian Tour order of merit winner Thongchai Jaidee will headline the field at next month's co-sanctioned Malaysian Open.

The Asian Tour event, which counts toward the European Tour's lucrative Race to Dubai money list, has also attracted five-times Ryder Cup player Darren Clarke and Briton Chris Wood, who finished tied for third at the British Open last year.

"I am excited to be taking part," Choi said in a news release Wednesday. "I have heard great things about this event and am looking forward to the warm Malaysian hospitality that I always receive when I'm in the country."

He will face a tough battle for the title from Thailand's Thongchai, who boasts a proud record in the event.

"I have won this tournament twice and it would be great if I could come back and win the title again," Thongchai said.

American defending champion Anthony Kang returns to defend his title at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club from March 4-7 where a $2 million total purse is on offer.
