The Las Vegas Locomotives began their second week of training camp Monday at the Casa Grande Performance Institute in Phoenix.
The Locomotives are working out in preparation for their season opener Oct. 8 at Sam Boyd Stadium against the California Redwoods.
The Redwoods are training at the same facility, and the two teams will scrimmage Thursday in Phoenix.
Here are five players on the LocomotivesÕ training camp roster whose names you might recognize:
¥ Casey Flair: The former UNLV standout is fighting for playing time with five
other receivers on the LocomotivesÕ roster, including former NFL player Samie Parker.
¥ J.P. Losman: The LocomotivesÕ starting quarterback called signals for the Buffalo Bills as recently as last season. Losman, who was drafted in the first round out of Tulane, went 10-23 as an NFL starter from 2004 to 2008.
¥ Tim Rattay: Rattay, who started 18 NFL games in his eight-year NFL career, is LosmanÕs backup. ItÕs no wonder Las Vegas coach Jim Fassel says his team has a quarterback staff some NFL teams would even envy.
¥ Marcel Shipp: Shipp starred at the University of Massachusetts and made the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted rookie free agent. He was the CardinalsÕ leading rusher in 2002, 2003 — when he shared carries with NFL Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith — and 2005.
¥ Tab Perry: Perry, a 6-foot-3 receiver, played at UCLA. He was drafted in the sixth round by Cincinnati in 2005 and spent three years with the Bengals, mostly returning kicks and playing on special teams. He signed with the Miami Dolphins last year but tore an Achilles tendon and sat out the season.
