Azinger won't return as Ryder Cup captain: report

Paul Azinger, who guided America to a convincing victory over Europe in the Ryder Cup in September, won't return as captain in 2010, he told Golf Digest magazine on Monday.

"All I can say is that it's not going to be me," Azinger told Golf Digest in an item posted on its website. "You'll find out who it is on Thursday."

Azinger captained the United States to a 16.5-11.5 triumph over Europe in the biennial match play showdown, held this year at Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky.

The first US victory since 1999 sparked speculation that Azinger might stay at the helm through the 2010 edition, to be held in Wales.

The PGA of America is to announce the new captain on Thursday in New York.
