Oregon's Ashton Eaton sets world record in indoor heptathlon, breaking Dan O'Brien's mark

Oregon's Ashton Eaton has broken Dan O'Brien's 17-year-old world record in the indoor heptathlon.

Eaton set a mark of 6,499 points Saturday at the NCAA indoor track and field championships, passing O'Brien's record of 6,476.

Eaton finished the final event of the heptathlon, the 1,000 meters, in 2 minutes, 32.67 seconds, nearly two seconds faster than he needed for the world mark.
